Abstract:Diallyl phthalate/glass fiber laminates were modified using organo-montmorillonite DK2 and MHAB-MMT ,respectively .The dispersion of organo-montmorillonite in DAP matrix was studied and their effect on the longitudinal flexural properties and inter-laminar shear strength of composite laminates were investigated .X-ray diffraction results show that both organo-montmorillonites are intercalated in ma-trix ,with the basal spacing independent of the organo-montmorillonite loading .Transmission electron mi-croscopy images indicate that both organo-montmorillonites form an intercalated structure ,with M HAB-MMT dispersed more homogeneously in DAP matrix .The mechanical testing results show that organo-montmorillonite has little effect on the longitudinal flexural properties of composite laminates and a great influence on the inter-laminar shear strength (ILSS) .The ILSS of composite laminates is found no signifi-cant increase when adding DK2 containing unpolymerizable group ,while the ILSS increases by 14 .8,when adding MHAB-MMT containing polymerizable group ,indicating that resonable choice of surfactants of organo-modified montmorillonte to improve the interlaminar properties of montmorillonte modified com-posite laminates is important .
